Caves

Did you know that Missouri is known as “The Cave State”?  Thousands of caves lay underground making for spectacular places to visit.  Some are small and accessible from hiking trails; others are large and open to the public with guided tours.  Talking Rocks Cavern is located just west of Branson, Fantastic Caverns is located in Springfield, and visitors can explore Marvel Cave as part of their admission at Silver Dollar City.  Caves keep a steady, comfortable temperature, so it is perfect in any weather.  Visitors love learning about the history and geology exploring a cave provides.

Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery

An interesting visit for all ages is a stop at the Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery located at the foot of Table Rock Dam. The Visitor Center features an interesting nature display and a short video on the hatchery and the process involved with producing the trout.  Visitors can feed the thousands of trout that are being raised for release and walk the trails in the conservation area.

Dewey Short Visitor Center

At Dewey Short Visitor Center, located on Table Rock Lake, visitors can learn about the waterways that make up Table Rock Lake and Lake Taneycomo, plus fascinating facts about Table Rock Dam.  Both the Shepherd of the Hills Hatchery and Dewey Short Visitor Center are free educational and entertaining stops.

Scenic Drives

To get acquainted with Branson and to see some of the most amazing views, we suggest setting out for a scenic drive.  Cruise around the lakes, backroads, and scenic highways to catch a glimpse of beauty.  One of the most popular drives is Hwy 265 and Hwy 165.  After crossing the dam, watch for the Hwy 165 Scenic Overlook.  From here you can see Table Rock Lake, Table Rock Dam, and Lake Taneycomo, all from the same point.

Persimmon Hill Farm

A unique family experience that combines the outdoors with culinary indulgence is a visit to Persimmon Hill Farm located in Lampe, Missouri, a short drive from Dogwood Canyon Nature Preserve.  This berry, fruit, and mushroom farm offers seasonal berry picking plus gourmet food products like baked goods, jams, syrups, BBQ sauces, shiitake mushroom sauces, and more.  Visitors can enjoy a cup of coffee with one of their famous Blueberry Thunder Muffins, stay for lunch and try the pulled pork sandwiches topped with Blueberry BBQ Sauce, or just cool off with their Cumulobluebus dessert!
